Mind-Body Wellness

Good morning! This is day two of my non-original content I am posting that is coming from https://www.myinteractivehealth.com Just hoping, again, to inspire and educate at least one person on health and fitness.       I am hoping to begin writing again soon whereas I think we can all use an additional outlet. Anyway, I hope someone finds this information I am sharing today useful.  What is the mind-body connection?      Your mind and body are powerful allies. How you think can affect how you feel. And how you feel can affect your thinking.      An example of this mind-body connection is how your body responds to stress. Constant worry and stress over jobs, finances, or other problems can cause tense muscles, pain, headaches, and stomach problems. It may also lead to high blood pressure or other serious problems. footnote 1 ,  footnote 2      On the other hand, constant pain...

Get Regular Exercise for Mental Health

So I realize that I have not posted anything to my blog in a very long time. Well, as you all know life gets in the way and the last few weeks/months I have just not been feeling like doing much of anything above and beyond just being. My next few posts are not original material, but I just thought I would share the information and maybe it will help or motivate someone.       Exercise is about more than keeping in shape. It also can help with your emotional and mental health. Exercise can help you improve your self-esteem, keep your mind off problems, and give you a sense of control. In general, people who are fit have less  anxiety ,  depression , and stress than people who are not active.      Research suggests that exercise can help specific mental health problems. Exercise may help prevent depression from coming back ( relapse ) and improve symptoms of mild depression. footnote 1 Be safe while you exerci...

Land of the Free...Home of the brave...

So today on this Memorial Day of 2015 when we honor our fallen troops of past and the men and women currently serving our country to protect our freedom I felt led to open the blog, blow off the dust, and write a new post.      Today I exercised my great freedom by participating in  the Murph Challenge . I did not really have a strong desire to do so, but knowing all the sacrifices made by the aforementioned men and women I felt I could endure some suck in honor of them. More specifically Lt. Michael P. Murphy endured far more than I have in my entire life so it only felt right. His story can be read here .      I can also say that as hectic a day as I have had, awakening at 5:30 this morning and just now getting to a point where I can sit an relax (now 5:25 pm) this was sincerely the most amazing and memorable Memorial Day I can remember in all of the 39 times I have revolved around the sun. Good exercise, good friends (see bel...

Weak progression...

I have been consistently pursuing a healthier lifestyle for several months now. This includes but is not limited to: healthier eating, more exercise, more rest, and more "me" time. Aside from just feeling better, my primary motivation is to have better health in general for Andrew's sake. I know the time will come when I will get to spend more time with him and I am not getting any younger. I want the precious time I do get with him to be the best it can be. If he wants to go to the park for four hours I want to be able to "hang" with him. As he gets older he will likely get into other sports or active lifestyle hobbies and I want to be able to do those things with him.      The progress I have seen in 2014 has been tremendous. It is a direct result of my dedication and consistency. This is also helping my finances, the gym comes out to approximately a dollar a day and so I can redirect money from other "entertainment" activities to chip away at...

Bereft of gluttony leading to satiety...

So the last month I had been under severe attack and it was a very difficult time for me to remain positive and optimistic. Well, that time is over! Last and first of year offerings to Him and my first fruit offerings through denying and devoting ( fasting ) are already paying off in dividends! Whereas it was much more than I had anticipated or ever previously given up; I know that as a result I will experience a great breakthrough in an area(s) of my life as a result of my obedience . The  First Conference has been incredible this far and I look forward to the remainder of it. I wish I could take the next three days off just to focus on the devotional and  The Word in preparation for the message. When pressing into Him over the last three days I am encouraged to further my actions with great fervor.

Non-smoking...

honestly I can not count how many times I had "quit" smoking in my life prior to the most recent, which was a few months ago. However, this time there is something different. Previously (if brought up in conversation) I would say, "I am trying to quit, it has been [fill in the blank] days, weeks, months, etc." The difference this time is that for the first time in over fifteen years, I actually think of myself as a nonsmoker! It happened a few days ago when I was the gym and my mind was wondering and covering all kinds of topics (as it always does 24/7). It was at that moment that the thought went through my mind that I am actually a nonsmoker. Now if I could only get back into the habit of consistently exercising...

Track the Olympic games...

Time: A precious commodity!

We all know the old saying time is money... well I have always agreed with this statement and even more so when my schedule gets to the point where I have to attempt to do everything needed as succinctly as possible. I realize that a few weeks from now I will have a better routine down but for now I am in a bit of a quandary and should probably not even be posting an entry right now...lol. But we all know how I have grown to love using my writing skills (or lack thereof) LOL As most of you know, I just moved back to Texas at the beginning of March. Since then I had been seeking employment; while occupying time not spent job hunting with trips to the gym, yoga, and an assortment of other healthy activities! (My apologies for the redundant data preceeding this sentence!) Anyway... I began my new job this week and my schedule went from having nothing but time on my hands to working over 40 hours a week. Now I have to find a way to get my workouts in so as to continue the great progress I ...

Namasté...

represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. It is also the ending statement you will hear at the end of a yoga session. Now, being that I will be going back to work with my new job starting Monday I will no longer have the opportunity to attend my Tuesday and Thursday morning yoga classes; still have Saturday morning classes. I am somewhat saddened by this fact but must focus on the positive that I am no longer unemployed! During this time I have utilized my time to make myself a better person. Doing more reading, more exercise (including yoga), and focusing on my short-term and long-term goals. Besides I will still have Saturday Volleyball, Sunday Football, and my other miscellaneous activities I do randomly.

Anti-sedentary...

Many of you know since I moved back to Texas that I have been quite active. But, now I lie here in bed this evening happy to have finally got a job I am in an immense amount of pain. In my attempt to get my life going back in the direction I was headed two to three years ago I have gotten highly involved in cardio (at the gym in the morning), yoga several times a week, my new found love of rock climbing, volleyball, tennis, etc. Oh! But the pain....it comes from my new found Sunday game of football. Four Sundays in a row now....and every Monday I am immobilized...lol. I strained my left quadriceps three weeks ago. It is always feeling better by the following Sunday so of course I go back out and play again. Dumb move. Then last Sunday (not yesterday) we played at the local college. Well the campus does not have a field; not a football field (or even sports field for that matter) but a barren field of hard packed clay and random prickly weeds. So with me thinking I am some super athlete...
