Mind-Body Wellness

Good morning! This is day two of my non-original content I am posting that is coming from https://www.myinteractivehealth.com Just hoping, again, to inspire and educate at least one person on health and fitness.       I am hoping to begin writing again soon whereas I think we can all use an additional outlet. Anyway, I hope someone finds this information I am sharing today useful.  What is the mind-body connection?      Your mind and body are powerful allies. How you think can affect how you feel. And how you feel can affect your thinking.      An example of this mind-body connection is how your body responds to stress. Constant worry and stress over jobs, finances, or other problems can cause tense muscles, pain, headaches, and stomach problems. It may also lead to high blood pressure or other serious problems. footnote 1 ,  footnote 2      On the other hand, constant pain...

Get Regular Exercise for Mental Health

So I realize that I have not posted anything to my blog in a very long time. Well, as you all know life gets in the way and the last few weeks/months I have just not been feeling like doing much of anything above and beyond just being. My next few posts are not original material, but I just thought I would share the information and maybe it will help or motivate someone.       Exercise is about more than keeping in shape. It also can help with your emotional and mental health. Exercise can help you improve your self-esteem, keep your mind off problems, and give you a sense of control. In general, people who are fit have less  anxiety ,  depression , and stress than people who are not active.      Research suggests that exercise can help specific mental health problems. Exercise may help prevent depression from coming back ( relapse ) and improve symptoms of mild depression. footnote 1 Be safe while you exerci...

Getting up vs. rising up...

Some of you know I was never truly a distance runner, but a couple years ago I was approached to train for and run a half-marathon to raise money for A21  and all proceeds we raised would go to fight human trafficking. After not only hearing of the atrocities involved with human trafficking and sex slaves throughout the world, but actually meeting girls who had been rescued from such a horrific life I was all in. Thus began months of difficult training. When I first began I went to the local high school to begin my training...it was humiliating. I honestly could not run a lap which in case you are unaware is a quarter-mile. Additionally, in case you are unaware a half-marathon is 13.1 miles! Clearly I had a lot of work ahead of me which would require diligence and patience. Fast forward a few months and I completed the half-marathon (albeit running ten miles and walking out the last three due to inadequate stretching of my IT b...

Non-smoking...

honestly I can not count how many times I had "quit" smoking in my life prior to the most recent, which was a few months ago. However, this time there is something different. Previously (if brought up in conversation) I would say, "I am trying to quit, it has been [fill in the blank] days, weeks, months, etc." The difference this time is that for the first time in over fifteen years, I actually think of myself as a nonsmoker! It happened a few days ago when I was the gym and my mind was wondering and covering all kinds of topics (as it always does 24/7). It was at that moment that the thought went through my mind that I am actually a nonsmoker. Now if I could only get back into the habit of consistently exercising...

Enervation to auspicious beginnings...

Well, here we are. My first blogoversary! I figured with this I should begin writing again. It has been far too long since I have regularly posted entries in here.  Well the last year was definitely filled with all kinds of change, adversity, etc.  January:  at the time I began writing in this blog I was just coming out of a state of pretty severe depression that was a result of a time in my life of obfuscation. I had never experienced depression before (whereas I am a predominantly happy go lucky kind of person) so it took me a while to even figure out what was wrong within myself. During that time I also began consistently experiencing migraine headaches that would last days. It was what some would call a low-point in my life. The turn around began when I flew into Texas for the holidays. I was able to visit my mother and sister and try to get my thoughts worked out. It worked...I went back to my home in Virginia after the holidays with a new sense of motivation.  February:  I decide...

Anti-sedentary...

Many of you know since I moved back to Texas that I have been quite active. But, now I lie here in bed this evening happy to have finally got a job I am in an immense amount of pain. In my attempt to get my life going back in the direction I was headed two to three years ago I have gotten highly involved in cardio (at the gym in the morning), yoga several times a week, my new found love of rock climbing, volleyball, tennis, etc. Oh! But the pain....it comes from my new found Sunday game of football. Four Sundays in a row now....and every Monday I am immobilized...lol. I strained my left quadriceps three weeks ago. It is always feeling better by the following Sunday so of course I go back out and play again. Dumb move. Then last Sunday (not yesterday) we played at the local college. Well the campus does not have a field; not a football field (or even sports field for that matter) but a barren field of hard packed clay and random prickly weeds. So with me thinking I am some super athlete...

Get a grip!

Woohooo! I went rock climbing earlier today and boy am I already sore...lol. However, they were good times; I spent about an hour climbing up miscellaneous walls. I would have loved to have spent more time there but after a few trips (five and one-half...lol) up the walls my forearms and grip were not willing to spend more time doing so...lol. I hope to buildup more endurance over time and will focus on strengthening my forearms and gripping muscles in order to increase my endurance on those areas. I have some more exercises to do for today and then I will spend some time resting....ahhh relaxation. I hope that everyone else is having as wonderful a Friday as I am! Until next time "Get a grip" LOL
