Decaffeinated kerfuffle...

Many Americans have a predilection to enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning. Well, those that work where I do are no different. However, due to working for a company that is a hybrid combination of two of the worst industries in our nation (at this juncture). They are doing all they can to cut costs whereas we are a sinking ship. The best analogy out there would be in the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" film where Captain Jack Sparrow's ship was sinking and just before it went completely under he stepped off onto the dock. I am just hoping the dock draws near before the ship goes under so I can make it to dry land. Anyone that knows me well knows that swimming is not my strong suit! LOL I digress... Below I have attached portions of an email that we received at my place of employment two weeks ago. Quite amusing if you ask me. "In a continued effort to minimize costs in 2009 we are looking at all areas of our building where we can save money... As a result ...

Surreptitiously observing the workforce...

I sit back and watch. It pains me at times but I know that life is full of tests and one thing that only we control of ourselves is our integrity. I also know that trust, whereas it takes time to build, can be completely taken away and removed in seconds. That is why I continue to be "that guy" at work. You know the guy many people talk about and call a brown noser? Why do they call me that? I can tell you why. Because, I do what I am paid to do. I show up to work on time. I actually work while I am there. I do not take excessive breaks, lunches, or meaningless trips to the printer/copy machine. I do not take personal calls (nor give out my work number). I do not email on personal matters at work. Nor, do I surf the net while at work.  ...and this all makes me some sort of a freaky nerd? Tell you what I will gladly accept that label.  One thing that consistently shows at EVERY place I have ever been employed is that my performance and results are among the leaders every ti...

Parochial assent...

that is what I made with God approximately nine months ago. At that time I was alone, depressed, miserable, bored, disgusted with myself and although making the most money I had ever made in my life I was empty. So I made an elementary commitment to begin to live a better life. That takes an immense amount of discipline. Culture of Discipline 1. Disciplined people 2. Disciplined thought 3. Disciplined action The combination of those three things will inevitably lead to Great Performance. You have to do this in all aspects of life. Your relationships, your job, your family, friendships, etc. This can be a struggle. especially in this day and age where we all have become so "busy" that we have trouble finding the time to do the things we know we need to. This is where we begin to fail. We have become slaves to time. We are the only ones that control what we do, how we do it, and more importantly when we do it. For those believers...you may be saying "God controls it"....

Cinco de Sober...

that is exactly what I am right now. I guess I REALLY am growing up...lol. Not to say anyone out enjoying this festive day is immature or has not grown up. My point being that I simply made a choice to not show up on my second day of my new job looking like a band member of the Rolling Stones. Last year I was too depressed to get out and so it was easy then. However, two years ago I would have likely requested a half day and been inebriated to the point of public ridicule by sunset. Would I have stopped there? Most likely not...I would have likely run into friends and been notified of a "great" party that one "would be a fool to miss". Of course to be completely honest if I were better off financially I would have most likely gone and had a couple for happy hour somewhere. All in all I can see how I am making much better decisions now than I have in the past. I know that this will all pay off soon and I will be reaping the rewards when I finally get my apartment. It...

Moratorium ...

may I blame my lack of posting as of late on the title of this post? I did not think so but, it was worth a try. Anyway I finally got a job after negotiating with a couple of different companies. I was offered the position last Friday and officially received the offer letter today and accepted! What a relief... I had been diligently searching since my arrival back here in Texas and has maintained a positive outlook on it all exuding confidence throughout every interview. Then my interview last Wednesday arrived. It was going quite well and I thought for sure I had the job. Then right at the end my confidence was shot and discouraging thoughts began to flood my mind. I left that interview wondering what I had done to deserve the consistent uphill climb that I have been facing in life the last few months. I was REALLY being negative...out of character for me since getting my life back on track recently. Good thing I had remained so positive for weeks previously I think I had some good en...
